Tuesday night fell races – Mynydd Mawr

Ok – so after a wonderful trip to Y Fron on Saturday for round 4 of the North Wales Fell running series I decided I enjoyed the tedium of the A55 journey so much that I’d try it again – this time in the honourable company of Mr Toogood and Mr Owen.

Not only did I repeat the journey of Saturday – myself and Steve repeated the same climb too – Mynydd Mawr as shown on the picture below behind our heroic visages.

Ignore the mad faces – Mynydd Mawr glowering in the background

It always amazes and humbles me just how many others turn out in the middle of nowhere on a cold Tuesday evening. Tonight was no exception – I reckon a hundred turned up to face the mountain – from under eights or over 60’s. More importantly this marked the debut of Chris Owen and his company was greatly appreciated.

The race itself is around 4 miles in distance with about 1500 feet of climb – not insignificant for a Tuesday evening. The race was as fun in the fell running sense of “fun” – that is the legs hurt, the lungs hurt, but the eyes feasted on the amazing views. It was a still, calm evening and the views of the surrounding mountains was breathtaking. Chris hated me on the way up (pain is life Chris) – but was glad of my suggestion to join us by the finish line. 🙂

Results – well we all finished unscathed but mud spattered – so that makes a great evening. The tea and cake were consumed as required and Steve (again) came out with the first v50 – he has pretty much owned that category for this year such is his great form. As requested by Claire Campbell we stopped here:

Great prices, great taste, surly ownership

So overall – a great night. And you lot ran up and down a lane a few times getting out of breath? I know I didn’t miss that. Next week sees a break but the week after the races resume – and I’ll be there to bore you with more pictures and a report!
