A brief round-up after a busy weekend, although I’m sure there’ll be more to add (email or comment if so). Highlight was obviously Cally’s stunning performance today at the Manchester marathon – his 2.35 puts him in rarefied company nationally. It also puts him at the top of our newly compiled (thanks to Gerard) V40/45 club rankings (there was a time when we had very few sub-3 runners, never mind this) and more significantly gives him a championship place at London.
Captain Callaghan as Proud as Punch
Also on Sunday there was a big turn-out for the much-delayed 4th Borders fixture, our most local race on the standard Mold/Nercwys route – full results not out yet, they will be published in the usual place, but there were lots of superb performances.
The Five Generations of Buckley Runners
Further west, Ben Williams put in a brilliant podium place run at the Rhyl 10k, finishing third in 36.32. Not sure if anybody did the Llangollen fell race today? Yesterday, two fell races at opposite ends of Wales. Steve Toogood ran the notoriously steep Cribyn race in the Beacons, missing out on 1st V60 by a handful of seconds. This was part of the Welsh fell running championships which a few of us have competed in over the years – Steve’s record speaks for itself. In Blaenau Ffestiniog, Jez Brown, Stu Thomas and Simon Roberts ran the mega-classic Ras y Moelwyn in perfect conditions: it takes in all three peaks above Blaenau.
