Sunday 5 November saw the second fixture of the 2023/24 Borders League season. With the gun going at the usual 11am start it was a fantastic race staged by Birkenhead AC at Birkenhead Park.
Following a solid start to the season over in Caernarfon last month, it was great to see us keep up the early season momentum.
The abysmal weather failed to deter the runners of this brilliant, competitive and ever growing league. A total of 473 runners took on the heavy showers during the 4 lapped course, to cross the finish line and set a new Borders League attendance record.

Following the individual results, the team standings are as follows –
On the day-
In the men’s division one, we scored 421 for 2nd place. We had all 10 counters home first, but an explosive start from Wrexham saw them take the win with a score of 353.
In the women’s division one, we scored 219 for 4th place; exactly mid table in the 7 team division. Deeside AAC continued their impressive start with 72 points taking the win.
Our old boys and girls lived up to our strong reputation in the veterans leagues.
The men took the win with a score of 550, finishing 14 ahead of 2nd place Wirral AC.
The women scored 105 for 2nd place behind West Cheshire AC (60).
Only two fixtures in but the early standings see our senior and veteran men top their respective divisions. Our senior and veteran women also hold the same positions as each other in their respective divisions, with both sitting in 4th place.
Well done to everyone who ran. It’s always a proud moment seeing so many of you out at races, wearing the blue vest of Buckley and enjoying time with team mates as a club.
